"The light and switch both have no current going to them"
You are no doubt measuring the voltage at the switch and light. How are you doing this measurement? If you are measuring between the hot wire and neutral, it could be that you have a bad neutral connection at that circuit.
"All the surrounding plugs, fixtures work" - If you can trace where the hot and neutral go back to the outlet where they are supposed to get the power, you may find a bad connection in the back of one of the oulets.
