Thanks Jim, I don't think you were rambling at all. Your answer was exactly what I was looking for. I am 99.9% sure there is no electric and no plumbing below or above the window. I may have to relocate a heating register though. The thought of two headers never entered my mind, that makes sense. I don't think there could be more than 1 stud inbetween the windows, there doesn't seem to be that much room. I did measure where the interior moulding was on both the windows and the doors in my house and the top is at the same height. I guess that doesn't mean anything necessarily.
So I will plan on having to reframe the header. Any idea how much that would cost to have someone do? I don't feel comfortable doing that. Load bearing and all of that stuff. I would feel comfortable doing the rest myself. I have installed prehung exterior doors before.
