Look at the old outlet and you will see that it had three wires on it. One white, one black, and one red, or some other color. The red may also be another black! On the new outlet, you need to break off the small tab tying the two brass colored terminals together and then connect the two black or red/black wires to the two brass terminals. The white goes to the silver terminal.
BUT, what are you doing about the ground?Leaving that float is a code violation. If the old wiring has a ground tied to the metal box, you are ok. Not the best solution, but ok. It may be a small gauge bare wire fed out the back of the box and grounded there.
