Testing 220 volt supply

1. Set your meter to Volts AC
2. Set your range higher than 220 volt.
3. At your power panel, uncover the CB that feeds the A/C Compressor.
4. There will be two wires comming out of the Circuit Breaker. Put one meter lead on one and the other lead on the other wire. CAUTION!! When you put one lead on a hot wire, the other lead can shock you! don't touch it!
5. You should have a reading of approx 220 volts AC.
6. Measure from each wire to Neutral, the ground block where all the white wires are connected. You should have a reading of 110 V AC or close to it. May be 120 volts.
7. If you can get to the wires going into the compressor box, do the same measurements.
The voltage may dip slightly when the motor turns on but should immediately teturn to 220 V AC.
8. There are two motors in most compressor boxes, one the compressor itself and the other the fan motor.
