tiller's lost it's spark Posted by fred on October 14th, 2004 08:25 AM
I have an older tiller (35-40 years old) with a briggs & stratton 5HP engine. This is a beast of a machine and has worked wonderful and looks almost perfect. If you let it, this thing coudl chew up a runway it's built so solid. I'm also very attached to it since I've this longer than my wife. I had it serviced earlier this spring and among other things they replaced the condensor and points due to some corrosion. It ran perfectly earlier this year, but now it refuses to start.
I just tried starting it to till in the gardens for fall and I'm not getting any spark. I'm broken it down, steel wooled the magnet, flywheeel and magneto, checked all the connections, the wires all look good, and even verified the condensor and points look good. Even the key looks brand new. But alas, still no spark in our long term relationship. How can I get the spark back, I'm assuming it's time to start replacing parts but I'd appreciate any feedback.
