magneto coil. Often the coil is bonded on one end of the coil circuit by attachment to metal mounting plate sort of like a negative ground in a car. If this mounting is rusted, oily or etc, that side of the primary circuit is broken. Sometimes the connection is the bolt mounting hole. Check for good clean metal however the coil mounts.
