is there a way ? Posted by dukeofearl on October 16th, 2004 02:50 AM In reply to Bathtub/Shower Faucet Leak by Unregistered-rpeterson on October 14th, 2004 02:22 PM [Go to top of thread]
My usual advice to plumbing jobs is to at first think about doing it and then promptly forget about doing it. You may pray for the original leak to return if you botch the job and make leaks inside the walls.
On the other hand, if you are adventurous and are going to call the plumber anyway, try to see how easy it is to remove the handle, knob or whatever it is you need to remove to get at the stem. This can be quite a learning experience, but your reward in heaven will be great (if you fix the leak). Sometimes you have to pry off a plastic nameplate to reveal a screw. Sometimes a small hexagon set screw will allow handle or knob removal.
IF you are really chicken to do any of the above, try going to someplace that sells your exact unit and examine what makes it work (better yet, look at the instructions for a drawing).
By now the plumbers in the forum are either laughing or punching out their monitors.
