My dishwasher broke down. I was sterilizing bottles in a pot of boiling water. I set the alarm, but forgot and went to bed. We woke to a house full of smoke and toxic fumes.

While the fire department ventilated the fumes, the stench was so bad we had to stay in a hotel for 2 days. I picked up a bag of potpourri and set it in a pot of boiling water similar to what kim/pat recommended.
While it masked the odor, when the pot was boiling, once I stopped the boiling process, the burnt plastic smell remained.

I have 2 questions....how long did you boil the mixture for? Did anyone else try this? what were your results? are there any other suggestions before I call in a professional smoke rememdiation company?

thanks.
