I just found this site. I believe the most reprehensible thing I found, besides underengineered washers is the suposedly professional who is a trained srvice person.

1997 I purchased a neptune. Noticed the odor, unplugged and opened door. No mold and no odor, no bleach. But let's start by saying I shouldn't have to do this.

Have had a inner basket mounting yoke shatter- replaced. Had an innertial safety switch fail- replaced. The repairs I did myself. Yes myself!!! Good thing I am mechanically inclined, mechanically educated.

Maytag has never responded to my requests. Three total for information.

I get a class action lawsuit packet from a third party. Didn't surprise me much. I realize I won't get any $ from it.

I will be buying a Bosch/Siemens, why you may ask. My neptune now has a bad bearing. I would have to totally dismantle the unit to replace the outer tub assembly. If I didn't perform my own service I would have in excess of $700 worth of bills prir to the bearing.

The rundown is as follows. The moisture inside ruins the circuit boards due to a harsh environment by the water that is left in the outer tub assembly. Not just the rubber boot. Softener also reacts to this and increases the chances of mold.

You can do as my wife and I have from the second week. Unplug or install a switch to shut off the power then pop the door. It will help until you replace it with another brand.

Please, for your own sanity, run from the neptune. Replace it when you can. The money you might spend in service will continue.
From here I go to other sites spreading my knowledge.

To the trained technician-keep your mouth shut so no one knows how ignoirant you actually are. Appliance repair is easy-theparts are the expensive parts.
