I think you need to be careful or you can end up with the chinmney in your lap. Even if the chimney just shifts then you have hurt your structure and may need roof repair. There's some bad stories about this and insurance doesn't always cover. I think it would be worth a couple of hundred to have a structural engineer give an opinion.
