Insulating an A-Frame

Posted by KennPrescott on October 26th, 2004 12:59 AM

My wife and I purchased some land with an A-Frame on it. It was most likely built as a summer home as it only has insulation in the end walls. We would like to convert it to a year-round residence, as well as, make it more energy efficient. The question is how to go about insulating it, from the inside or the outside. The wall and roof framing cavities are exposed and are approximately 5' on center. They are composed of 3 2X6s nailed together. Some of the walls extend about 15' in height. A loft covers about half of the second floor the rest is open from the main floor to the ceiling. The roof is composite shingles with about 5 years to go. Any thoughts? Thanks, Ken
