The "Hot/Neutral Reverse" is often an indication of a problem NEUTRAL........

CAREFULLY.....Retest the circuit with a Voltmeter or 2-wire Neon tester (or even a light bulb in a socket).......These are the correct readings you're looking for:

Black to Ground wire......(120 volts)

Black to White............(120 Volts)

White to Ground...........(0 Volts)
