We have a 28 year old home on a slab.
We have run our airconditioner (central) all summer without any problems, but as it has begun to get cooler, we have noticed that certain ceiling vents are leaking badly. Water is almost pouring out onto our carpet. This is especially true in 2 bedrooms. I tried to turn on the heat for the first time this AM, and a horrible smell filled the house. It is a gas heater, and smells like old dust or a burnt smell. I know that this smell usually occurs at the beginning of every season when we turn on our heat, but we've never had leakage from our ceiling vents. My daughter was concerned that it is carbon monoxide. We need to get a detector, but I think it's somehow related to condensation. Do you know what could be causing it and what we could do to fix it without expensive repair visits? Thanks.
