Detergent build-up?

** My "Performa" washer is also smelling of mildew or mold. **

** I use loads of Tide and Downy **

That may be the cause of the problem, excessive detergent, etc., building up on parts of the machine creating a medium for growths. Cleaning up any mold or mildew which develops can be difficult and/or time consuming and may even need some parts of the washer to be disassembled to gain access to them for manual cleaning.

Periodically running several washes with very hot water and bleach may eventually help (could take several weeks) provided the amounts of cleaners being used during washing is adjusted, if found to be the cause. There are also commercial washing machine cleaning products available which might speed the process somewhat.

** I have called numerous times to the customer service center and have rec'd NO help. **

You only need to call a local *factory authorized* service in your area to get service on a product under warranty. You can find some local ones for Maytag at the following link:

Maytag Parts, Service, Dealer Locator

If the product is out of warranty you can call any local appliance repair company you like although one of the above might be the best choice still. If you want Maytag to pay for service on an out of warranty product, than you will likely have to deal with Maytag directly. :(
