In reply to Our LOPI Pellet Stove Insert by Susan Bourquin on December 4th, 2003 08:14 PM [Go to top of thread]

I have used a Lopi for a year with no incident except now the auger won't turn.
However, regarding the complaints of too many pellets, etc. my experience is that starting the stove requires the intake damper to be closed off (rod pushed in on my stove). Set the pellet delivery speed to low. Start the stove with 3 handfuls of pellets and once the flame turn whitish in color, open the intake damper 1/2 way. Turn up the pellet delivery speed to 1/2. Once the fire gets cranked up, pull the intake air rod all the way out and turn the pellet delivery speed to high. Play with the air intake rod to see how it affects your fire. If you don't have enough air coming into the system, your fire is starved and the pellets coming in at high speed will overfill the container.
When you shut the stove off, leave the air intake open and turn the pellet delivery speed to low. The fire will burn complete and self clean the pellet cup. Best wishes.
