Interior Brick

I've just recently purchased a home that has interior brick on both the bathroom and kitchen walls. Any suggestions on refinishing, covering, updating the look?
I'd like suggestions short of tearing it out and replacing with drywall. I plan to do that someday, but it's just not in the budget right now.
