Caulk as adhesive

I would use a continuous bead of caulk at the base and seams of the backsplash........and "blobs" of caulk or construction adhesive at the top edges.........

Apply pressure to the bottom of the beadboard with a plywood scrap clamped to the countertop.....use trim or a nailing block attached to the cabinet bottom to hold the top in place while the adhesive sets....
