I have a house built in '78, and the original Anderson windows have begun to split at the wood joints and therefore skew and allow as much as a pinky finger to poke through to the outside. This was probably due to poor installation as the moisture is working its way to the sides of the frame. Fortunately, the sashes are quite easy to replace. There are only 6 screws and with a helper, they can be switched out in about 15 minutes. I have done 12 of them myself and order replacements at Home Depot as they go bad. We put a large addition on the house 2 years ago and installed 400 series Anderson windows all around (like a sunroom). I can sit by the window on the coldest day and not feel a draft. The room is 24 X 27' with 14 foot ceiling and we had NO increase in our heat/cool bill. These windows ARE A GOOD PRODUCT!
