Pressure treated wood indoors

Posted by mr marks on December 15th, 2004 10:45 PM

I recently completed a garage conversion to living space. My garage has a slab and i constructed a 2x6 floor with non pressure treated wood. When the local building inspector learned of this, against my wishes, he made me rip it out and use pressure treated wood. He said it was laying on the slab and would be a wide open for termite infestation. I could not understand this but to get a certificate of occupancy, I complied. I completed the construction and got a certificate of occupancy. Now, in the winter, when the baseboard heat is on, there is the smell of wood in the room. Similar to the smell you have in the lumber department at Home Depot. I made sure i used the newer pressure treated wood, NOT CCA, but it is still pressue treated. Is there any risk of some airborne chemical gas that may come from this? I figured that as long as the wood was covered by subflooring and carpet, it would be safe. Does anyone have any commentary regarding this?
