It sounds like you have the LINE and LOAD terminals reversed. Be sure the incoming hot and neutral are connected to the LINE terminals, and the conductors that go to the bathroom outlet are connected to the LOAD screws. Remember, black wire to brass screw, and white wire to silver screws.
Double check everything--hopefully that will work.
