Cottage flooring

We have a very old cottage which we plan in doing major renovations to in 3 or 4 years. But in the meantime we wanted to spruce it up a little using very little money. Specifically the floor is really bugging me. There is just the basic subfloor covered with carpeting. I want to rip up the carpeting and do something to the floor. I'm thinking of perhaps painting the floor??? I should add that this cottage is not used in the winter. Any ideas? Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
