Shifting walls - not basement Posted by kaiserjoeicem on December 29th, 2004 01:02 PM
Took a close look at the stairs up to my bungalow in an effort to see where a draft was coming from.
Turns out, I have a long crack running along the side of the stairs - both sides. Upon further inspection, I can see a hairline crack in the corner of the upstairs walls (both exterior).
I can also see a little hairline crack under the stairs, and I noticed that my kitchen cabinets are pulling away from the wall.
I've lived in this house three years, and I do know there was a fire in the kitchen (where the stairs are) at least two years before I moved in.
Any suggestions? Caulking for the draft is a short-term fix, but I fear my stairs and upper floor will be caving in soon. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
