Can furnace mount humidifier be mounted on duct?

Hi - For Christmas I received as a gift a new Kenmore Mod. #93806 18 gal. furnace mount humidifier as the old duct mounted 25+ year old said I quit a couple years back.The old one was basin type with ceramic wheels that turned slowly rotisserie style attached horizontly to the warm air plenum and powered by 110V outlet on furnace when the furnace was running. As it's still in the box I didn't want to open it and try to install it if for some reason it wouldn't work. Thanks for your help.
