I do not know why they say not to use a self piercing connector.

To my knowledge, there is nothing wrong with this method and I have never had any problem with this connector.

If you do not use this connector, you have to have a plumber hook up a "T" on the water line for the icemaker to tie into.

Really do not understand their thinking. Perhaps someone else will shed some light on this reasoning.
