Refinishing hardwood floor

Recently we had our Oak floors sanded, stained and refinished. After a few days, various splotches of yellow started to appear, particularly around the joints. The contractor thought that this might be due to the original stain "seeping up" from the joints. He has offerred to refinish the floors again, but I am not certain that this will solve the problem. Any suggestions?
