Rustoleum did use and probably still uses "fish oil" in their paint where others use a plant based oil, like linseed oil. The "fish oil" is cod liver oil and that does have a heavy and unpleasant odor. As Tomh says, the odor will disappear over time. The fish oil does last longer than linseed oil and that is why Rustoleum feels that their product is better at keeping metal from rusting than other paint.
