I live in Ohio and have a house with 3/4 of it in stucco. Over the last 15 years, my three patio doors have rusted out. I had no idea why and couldn't find any reason for it. I thought the doors were manufactured badly. Since the doors have been replaced I have noticed that water is dripping from the trim inside. I went up into the attic and checked to see if it was coming from the roofline or vent. What I noticed is that the nails poking through the insulating styrofoam holding on the "chicken wire" all had water drops on them and the blown in insulation was soaked. The 2x4s were not soaked, but I then realized that the stucco is letting water through to the styrofoam insulation and it is running between the styrofoam and the stucco all the way down to the nearest opening into the house. The tops of my doors. I have sealed the outside of the stucco on the house twice. Water is still getting through. What are my options? I can't get in between the stucco and the styrofoam since that's what's holding the house together so to speak. But I can't afford to keep replacing doors and floors every few years. I hate to think of what it would look like if I cut a section of styrofoam out and risked a look at the in between.
