capping old pipes

Do you have easy access below the old kitchen? If so, I would be inclined to cut and sweat caps on the water lines in the basement to avoid leaving abandoned plumbing within the closed up wall. Assuming the drain is iron pipe, just screw a cap on it and close it up.
