Tool Advice- Saw Blade

Posted by gmonkey on January 20th, 2005 10:50 AM

Hello,

I need to cut plowed oak stair railing, newels, and balusters with my miter saw. I have a general purpose blade with what looks like a fairly heavy kerf. What sort of saw blade should I use for the oak?

I'm concerned that my general purpose blade might chip the plowed part of the railing. (I haven't done a test cut as yet.)

I think I have a 30 tooth blade right now. Should I get a 60 or 80 tooth blade?

Thanks,

Greg
