You NEVER-EVER "Switch" a NEUTRAL.......

......So if the OLD switch was switching both lines then you don't have a 120 volt appliance.........Like everyone has assumed so far.......The wiring diagrams described so far are for a 120 volt heater........and sound correct for that application......

Please.....POST the brand and model of the unit and the voltage data from the unit..........
