floor register block off

i need to place a stand alone pantry cabinet
in an area that will put it over top of a floor register in my kitchen. considering this register supplies heat and air conditioning will it be ok if i just shut off the register ? should i do any additional covering or blocking as the register still leaks a little out when closed ?
i have an open kitchen,dining and living room area that has additional floor registers and they seem to allow adequete heat and cool thruout with this vent closed. thanks.
