I suggest you clean your fence before staining. Armor All E-Z Deck Wash is a great cleaner to use. And be sure to waterproof your fence as well. There are lots of waterproofing toners on the market today. I think Armor All has one of those too. Check them out on the web www.armorallhomecare.com
