replace rotted carpet with linoleum

Hoping for some help please.
I have a carpet near the entrance to my house that is to say the least fausty. I want to cut out the section near the entrance and replace with waterproof material. Can I assume this would be linoleum? Could someone please tell me what I need for this project.
