Thanks Lonny. I have done this gazillions of times, since this problem surfaced almost a year ago. The problem seems to go away temporarily for maybe 1/2 or 1 day, and it comes back.
FURTHER INFO: The two (cold and hot) main pipes feeding up from the basement, to the upper floors, when they reach the bedroom level, one set must go to the right of the house to my son's bedroom washroom, and the other set must go to the left of the house to our masterb'room washroom. Whenever my son's washroom is used (shower, sink, toilet), there is little noise, you know the normal ticking and a click here and there. BUT try using anything in the master b'room, and the bangs start. I have changed, so far, the moin showerhead cartridge, as moin technician said this new cartridge is the state of the art which prevents water hammer. That did'nt help much. After that I replaced the toilet fill valve - no good. Then I called plumber to replace the toilet shutoff valve - At this time, a complete drain of the system was done, so the problem went away for a day - thought it was the shutoff valve that helped, but it was due to the fact that I had drained the system.

Now there are three faucets in the problem washroom that I have not changed, two sinks and a stepup tub. This week-end, I am going to change the sinks, one at a time, and see if this helps - DO YOU BELIEVE THAT BY CHANGING ALL FAUCETS THE CULPRIT FAUCET MIGHT RID THE PROBLEM ???
