noise when toilet flushes

My toilet was running off and on so I replaced the flush valve, I had a hard time getting the toilet to shut off correctly. I had to bend the floater ball wire many times in order to get the water to shut off and stop running. Now when the toilet flushes you hear like a farting noise. If I have the tank lid off it even shoots some water up out of the overflow valve. Can someone please tell me what I need to adjust to have this stop. Thank you, Connie
