kenmore front load washer problems

My Kenmore front load washer model #42200 had had a very strong mildew smell since about a month after I bought it and now has begun causing black mards on my laundry. The is the model with the black rubber gasket and a small door opening. I've heard that both problems could be caused by water seeping into the bearing casings. Any thoughts?
