I have never used potassium chloride in a softener, and don't know the relative merits vs. sodium chloride. Potassium costs more. Maybe for people who don't want sodium in their water. Anyway,it is my understanding that any standard water softener can use potassium instead of sodium. Double check that with mfg instructions of course.
