Tension In Toronto Posted by on February 1st, 2005 10:55 PM In reply to The EUREKA moment ? by Unregistered-marif1 on February 1st, 2005 04:40 PM [Go to top of thread]
Thanks to Doug for good comments and for alerting me to the thread. It is unlikely that it is the supply tubes. When water is used in a system it lowers the pressure to all fixtures. This can allow movement of loose parts such as washers. Other sources are a Pressure Reducing Valve, backflow nipples at the water heater, loose gate in a gate valve, recirculating pump, loose washer in a shut off valve, loose washer in a wall hydrant, air hammer arrestor, humidifier valve, ice maker and the water valve in the washing machine. These fixtures do not have to be used in order for the sound to occur from them. Sound does not always give a good indication of source. The crime can be committed on the top floor but the sound heard in a basement.
Previous posts indicate water pressure changes except for the 1-25 post where you mention it has continued for an hour. It is possible for harmonics to occur and the banging continues despite the settling of pressure but this is very rare. Of course you are in a very rare situation.
Banging seems to indicate a metal sound such as a faulty gate valve or pressure reducing valve. Consider the various observations I have made and I will monitor your posts. Thanks again to Doug for alerting me to your posts. I don't know why I have been missing them. Blindness must be associated with baldness. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
