Reddog, when you have an unrelated question, you should start a new thread and not hijack an existing discussion. In answer to your question, nope, foam insulation in a can is not a suitable sealant for moisture. It seals our air infiltration. What you need will have to be done from the exterior side of the roof. You need to get on the roof and inspect the thimble through which your vent stack projects. There are various types. Some seal to the vent stack with a flexable rubber or plastic lip, while some have a lead lip. The plastic seals sometimes deterioriate in the elements and require replacement of the thimble. If it is of the lead type, you can just crimp the lead seal more tightly around the vent stack for a better seal. Likewise, silicon caulk can be used around the lip for a better seal.
