I own a 110 year old Farm house in Central Illinois which was built by my Great Grand Father.
After a major basement flood in Jan. I decided to put a Sump Pump pit in and install a sump pump. The lowest place in the basement was the center of the floor. next to an interior wall. After breaking through the floor I was amazed (and shocked) to discover there was nothing under the floor. After inlarging the hole I discovered I had broken throug to a cement vault 3ft. wide and 2 ft. deep which run's the intire length of the house. Does anyone have any idea what this is. My guess is it might be some type of drainage system which might drain into a field tile. There was about 3 inches of water in it.
I would apreciate andy information any one would have. Thanks
