Before we open a can of worms...

Posted by LRB0754 on February 13th, 2005 12:13 AM

Hi there...I'm new to this forum and thought I'd start out by asking some advice. We have an older home built in the 40's that is in good shape, but needs cosmetic updates. One big issue is the kitchen, laundry and half bath floor. It has glued on kitchen carpet from the 70's -- simply hideous -- and underneath it appears to be asbestos tiles. We'd like to install a laminate floor, but wonder if the carpet and tile absolutely has to be removed first. We are on a limited budget and have both a cancer survivor as well as an asthma/emphasema sufferer in the house to consider. So safety is an issue, and money is an issue. What is the best solution?
