Personally, I dont like durock. It does not score and snap very cleanly, or easily, because you have to score heavily through the fiberglass mesh on one side, snap it, and score again through the mesh on the other side. It usually winds up crumbly and jagged.
Hardibacker, or Fiberock are much easier to work with. And you can cut out irregular shapes with a coping saw, if needed, as opposed to scoring and snapping pieces to fit together any unusual layout configurations. You get cleaner seams that dont need to be taped and mudded.
