Egress window vs. door

My basement project is about 4 days from starting up. I too, had this question. Of the contractors who bid the job, one seemed interested in steering me toward the window, the other three didn't seem to care one way or the other. Nobody indicated that water intrusion would be a bigger problem with one over the other and they all assured me that they would properly waterproof so that the area is water tight.
The decision to go with the door was fairly easy for me. It came down to $3000 for something I would never use (window will really only get used IF there is an emergency) vs. $5000 for something that I would find quite useful (Bilco door = easy to bring things in and out).
In addition to the utility of the door, I figure I also might get something back for it when I sell the home.
By the way, my contractor is also installing a regular exterior door between the basement and the steps up to the Bilco door so there will be more than just the Bilco door protecting the basement from the elements outside.
