rotten sauterkraut smell from basement drain tile

Posted by wehrb1 on March 18th, 2005 05:47 AM

I had my replaced my septic tank replaced two years ago due to the condition of the old tank.

Then had a sump pump installed - due to ponding in my back yeard. Water flow was tremendous through the sump pump, then gray water began to enter through the drain tiles in to the sump sump.

Found out that back in the late 50's leech fields where optional, we only had to a pipe that lead about 50 feet away from the septic tank. Which after a dye test found out that the septic was filtering through to the ground water and came into the sump pump.

Had sand filter installed, water into the sump has slowed down to a trickle.

But now we have a rotten saurekraut smell coming through the drain tile and times you can actually feel the air flow. There a p-traps in both of the floor drains and have checked on several occassions. They are holging water. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
