Stairs in need of repair

We have opened up behind our stairs to do repairs becasue of much squeaking and movement. We found an 1.5" gap between stringer and riser, should this be filled? On the wall side the treads have no support the stringer is 6" from the wall and the treads move, do we need to add support by the wall or will sistering blocks along the stringers be enough? Also, when carpet was removed there is a 1/2" gap around tread and baseboard. Any suggestions for filling without tearing baseboard off plaster wall? Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
