Leather coat Posted by greyhat on April 4th, 2005 12:58 PM In reply to How to get paint off leather couch by Natasha on December 21st, 2003 10:43 PM [Go to top of thread]
I tried the acetone-free nail-polish remover on my black leather jacket but it took the colour out. So instead, having a wild flash of inspiration, I tried using cotton buds (don't know what you call those in the US - I'm in the UK - they are little sticks with a blob of cotton stuck to each end) soaked just in my own spit and it worked a treat - it was just abrasive enough to remove the paint but not to noticeably harm the leather. Larger spots of paint were easier to remove - they just flaked off, but some of the tiny spots needed more rubbing as they had got deeper into the natural creases in the leather. Initially this will take out a tiny bit of colour (you will see the head of the bud change colour - don't worry, it doesn't show) but when the cotton becomes the same colour as the leather you know it isn't taking any more colour out, so don't get a new clean bud - just scrape the paint off and keep using the same one for as long as you can.
