I just purchased my first home and am in a pitched battle with odors. I'm making good progress with the walls and floors, but the kitchen cabinets and drawers are giving me fits. They're wood and it looks like pine to me, although I'm no wood expert. It's stained. The inside of the cupboards smells, and the best way I can describe it is that it smells like the inside of a trailer. It's musty and just very nasty. I don't want to put any dishes in until I fix it. I am going to seal and paint the outside of the cabinets, but didn't want to have to paint insides unless I had to. What is the best way to eliminate (not just mask) the smell? I've been told to clean w/ bleach and then sprinkle baking soda and shaves soap in there for a few days. Will this work?
