Semi hardwiring of surge suppressor

Posted by ppotter on April 14th, 2005 12:41 PM

Hi,

I am renovating our attic to turn it into a home theater. I plan to put a plasma screen on the wall and place a Panamax in wall AC outlet/surge suppressor behind it. This does not provide protection from lightning however. Therefore I plan to wire this outlet behind the wall to a plug that will connect to a readily available lightning surge suppressor. This will then be plugged into a receptacle in the attic space.

My question is does this meet code? It would appear to me to be OK, but I am not sure if wiring in attics is different regarding insulation, etc. This is not an in wall installation since all of the cables are accessible for the attic.

Thanks,

Phil
