You cannot just disconnect the fixture, cap off the wires and close up the box in the wall. Code requires that all connections & terminations be accessable. You probably need to find the wire feed above or below and cut it in a location where a junction box cover won't be objectionable. -perhaps in the attic, basement or cabinet.
