Sounds like the magnetic relay could be going out. If that's the case, I'm sorry to say, you're on the verge of being SOLed. Chamberlain no longer makes the magnetic relay used in their older openers, and if you can find a working one in the scrap yard, or wherever the garage door company dumps their remmved units, it's luck. I can't really say for sure without looking at it myself and playing with it a bit, but from experience, that's what it sounds like. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like time to pay a visit to Sears or Home Depot and get a new machine.
